RAYMOND EN HET NACHTLEVEN IN DUNEDIN: 1 DODE

Gisteren weer op stap geweest zoals je wel op de WhatsApp hebt kunnen zien: Japanse lekkernijen en daarna een mild stapavondje; we waren om 01.00 uur weer braafjes thuis. Was misschien maar goed ook, want in een club 2 deuren verder dan waar wij waren is gisteravond iemand vermoord! Het was toevallig ook nog iemand van 35 jaar oud, dus we kregen vanmorgen een bezorgd telefoontje van onze mede-stappers (die iets eerder naar huis gingen) met de vraag of we nog in leven waren. Dat was een goede vraag, die ik echter niet goed kon beantwoorden. Kater!

Ben gelukkig nog wel in staat geweest om in de loop van de dag een paar dingen af te handelen, zoals de aanvraag voor stroom en internet in mijn nieuwe appartement in de Duncan Street.

Op de site van ONE NEWS (TVNZ) stond vanmorgen het volgende bericht over de moord:

A 25-year-old man is in custody after the death of a man at a Dunedin bar this morning.
Police and ambulance officers were called to the Craft Bar in the Octagon at about 1.45am in relation to an alleged assault. They found a 35-year-old man unconscious in the toilet area and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. About 60 people were believed to be in the bar at the time of the alleged assault.

Police have interviewed several witnesses and are following a strong line of inquiry.
They say they are interested in the movements of three men, aged from their 20s to 40s, who become involved in an altercation outside the Isis bar, in which a window was broken. Police believe the group may be linked to the incident at the Craft Bar which resulted in the man's death.
The group of three included a man aged in his thirties or forties wearing a mohawk hairstyle and another man around similar age with a shaved head. They were dressed in dark casual clothing and wearing jeans.

The police don't believe there had been any previous interactions between the 35-year-old man who died and other patrons at the bar, prior to the alleged assault. Police are not seeking a weapon in relation to the incident.
Police said people at the Craft Bar may remember seeing a man aged in his mid-20s at around 1.40am without his shirt on.
The man left the bar with two associates and headed through the Octagon area to the vicinity of the Isis bar. Police would not be releasing the name of the man until his next of kin had been notified. A cordon has been placed around much of the lower Octagon and a police officer and security guard are at the entrance to Craft.
Anyone with information that help police can contact Dunedin Police on 471-4800. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Heavy rain - and snow - are on their way for the South later today, forecasters say. Otago is due to get another drenching later today as a storm system moves over the lower South Island.

The MetService says rainfall may reach "warning amounts" in coastal and North Otago, and in Southland and southern Canterbury. Rain will set in tonight in Dunedin and North Otago with 80 to 120mm of rain expected in some areas between midnight and midnight on Monday.

The heaviest falls are expected about the coastal hills and ranges of North Otago with rainfall of 10 to 15mm per hour likely tomorrow afternoon. "These rainfalls are likely to lead to swollen rivers, and surface flooding. The effects will be exacerbated by already saturated ground from recent rains. 

"People in all these areas engaged in weather sensitive activties should be aware of heavy rain coming."

The rain will be followed by a low with a strong southeast flow.

This will bring the chance of "substantial snowfalls" tonight and tomorrow down to about 900 metres in parts of Otago, Fiordland and inland Southland.

Omdat het hier overal behoorlijk vochtig is, ook in huis dus, krijg je je kleren niet snel droog. En een nat pak loop je al snel op, als je paraplu niet helemaal wind- en waterproof is. Vandaar dat ik zo nu en dan gebruik maak van Peter's elektrische buizenkachel die ik op mijn slaapkamer heb staan. 
Ook voor de komende dagen blijft het regenachtig. Ik ben wel benieuwd hoe het in mijn nieuwe appartement is, omdat daar wel dubbelglas is, geloof ik. 
Dit was het weer voor deze keer. Zie net op internet dat er bij de toestanden in het centrum afgelopen weekend misschien een tweede dode gevallen is. Tijd om de aanschaf van een gun te overwegen. Kan ik weer gerust uitgaan in Dunedin. De groeten, en tot de volgende keer.
